GoTranscript Reviews & Overview

Becoming a GoTranscript freelancer is free. To get started, visit the GoTranscript website and click on the "Apply Now" button to start the application process.

If the site says they're not currently looking for new transcriptionists, you'll need to check back later.

During the application, you'll need to provide some personal information (including your known languages) and fill out a transcription test to demonstrate your skills. The test involves transcribing an audio file while following GoTranscript's style guidelines. No prior experience is required.

Once you're finished, wait for the results of your test. This can take 30-60 days. You'll need at least 95% accuracy to pass.

If you pass, you'll be invited to become a paid transcriber. If you don't pass, you can retake the test.

The primary way to earn money on GoTranscript is by completing transcription work. Once you have access to the work dashboard, you'll find a variety of files to work on.

You can read about each file and preview the audio clips before claiming a job. Some files will have specific requirements or notes attached to them (e.g. if the file has an accent or has multiple languages) — be sure to read these before claiming the file.

Each file will pay a varying amount, with the average rate being $0.60 per audio minute.

After completing a transcription, your work will be reviewed by an editor, who will provide a rating (out of 5) and comments to help you improve your work.

If you maintain a high rating (4.5 or higher) and have at least 20+ completed transcriptions under your belt, eventually, GoTranscript may invite you to apply to other opportunities besides general transcription, including:

• Captioning/subtitling (matching up subtitles and captions to videos)
• Editing (reviewing work from other transcribers)

If you do get invited for one of these opportunities, you'll need to take a new test to qualify for them.

Once you have earned any amount of money (there's no minimum payout), you can cash out your GoTranscript earnings via Payoneer or PayPal.

After cashing out, you can expect to receive your GoTranscript payout in 0-9 days. (Payouts are processed every Friday. Completed files are only available for payout after they've been reviewed (which typically takes 1-2 days).)

From there, you'll be asked to create an account by providing your full name, email, industry, country code, and phone number.

Each time you upload a file to be worked on, you'll be able to choose your file's language, text format, number of speakers, and desired turnaround time.

Once your order is completely set up, you'll be asked to pay for it in full and then wait for completion.

The pricing for the services GoTranscript offers varies depending on factors such as the length of your recording, number of speakers, language, order size, and desired turnaround time.

• Transcription ranges from $1-$4/minute.
• Captions range from $1.50-$4.50/minute.
• Audio/video translation ranges from $13-$26/minute.
• Text translation ranges from $0.10-$0.20/word.
• Subtitling starts at $17/minute.

Refunds are available but only for work that hasn't been started yet. For example, if 25% of your file has already been transcribed when you request a refund, you'll only receive 75% of your money back.

Interest will be charged on overdue payments at an annual rate of 3%.
