If you've ever used a paid survey site or GPT (get-paid-to) site before, you've likely dealt with one of (if not all three) of these common problems:
- Survey disqualifications/screen-outs
- GPT offers not tracking or crediting properly
- Getting banned suddenly or losing your earnings
All of these things are extremely frustrating.
In this article, I'm going to share some paid surveys tips and tricks + GPT site tips you can use to better avoid these problems.
Plus, I'll also share some tips that should help improve your efficiency so you can earn more and waste less time.
That said:
Don't expect your hourly rates to skyrocket to unbelievable levels. Survey sites and GPT sites are never going to be big money makers. The sooner you accept that, the less disappointment you'll face.
Table of Contents
Terminology
- Paid survey – A paid survey is an online questionnaire that you can answer for cash.
- GPT site – A GPT site (or app) is a type of rewards platform that offers a variety of simple money-making opportunities like surveys, paid videos, sign-up offers, games, and more. Popular examples include Swagbucks, Freecash, and Qmee. Most of the opportunities on these types of sites are from 3rd parties, not from the actual site itself. You can often find the same paid offer providers (ie. offer walls) across multiple different GPT sites.
- Offer wall – An offer wall is a widget provided by a 3rd party company that contains paid tasks like surveys, game downloads, paid signups, and more. When a GPT site refers you to a paid offer within an offer wall and you successfully complete it, they receive a commission. They then share some of this commission with you (e.g. if they earn $1, they might give you $0.75 and keep $0.25 as profit). Some GPT websites share more revenue with their users while others take more profit.
5 Tips for Beginners: The Essentials
1. Realize That You Won't Get Rich
This isn't really a tip, but it's the first mental hurdle you need to overcome if you're going to be a paid survey taker or GPT tasker.
Here's the harsh reality:
This type of side hustle can almost never replace your full-time income.
I've seen a few people pull in $1,000+ in a month doing surveys and other GPT tasks, but it's not common, and it's almost never consistent.
In other words:
If you want electricity and running water, don't quit your day job.
Think of your survey and GPT site income as merely bonus money.
If you think this way, you'll never be disappointed with your earnings.
And hey, even if you only make $50-$100 extra a month, that can be perfect for saving money on groceries, getting rid of credit card debt, treating yourself, building an emergency fund, or accomplishing some other financial goal.

2. Create a New Email Address
This is probably the most important tip on this list.
Before you sign up for ANY survey sites or GPT sites, set up a secondary email address specifically for them.
This will make it easier for you to sort through surveys and offers, and it'll keep your main inbox clean and spam-free.
Last thing you want is your main inbox looking like mine does:

I get anywhere from 10-50 emails per day from rewards platforms on my secondary email address. It's basically a full-time job keeping up with all of them.
Anyway:
If you're wondering where to create your second email address, I recommend using Gmail, but any free email service should work. Gmail is just a good one because some platforms require you to sign up via an existing Gmail account.
3. Only Use Legitimate Sites and Apps
Sorry for pointing out the obvious here but this is an important tip.
In the survey/GPT space, there are (unfortunately) a lot of scammers.
These unethical fellows will waste your time, try to steal your personal information, or even hack your devices.
Not fun.
Luckily, once you know what to look for, spotting scams is pretty easy. There are always red flags.
To learn more, check out my guide on How to Spot Survey Scams and GPT Scams. You can also check out the Hustle Finder side of the Platform Discovery Tool to find money-making platforms that we've marked as legit.
Here are some other helpful places to find site recommendations:
- Surveys
- GPT Sites
Warning: Beware of downloading survey and GPT apps from the Google Play or App Store just because they have high ratings. Many apps entice new users to give a 5* review (even though this goes against app store terms) in exchange for points or money, so a lot of reviews are disingenuous.
4. Protect Your Privacy and Devices
Sticking with legitimate sites is the first step to protecting your privacy and personal information, so hopefully you read that last tip.
Still, even legitimate sites can have security flaws.
For that reason, before you even begin to participate in paid surveys and other GPT tasks, make sure you know the risks and how to protect yourself.
Here are a few things you can do right now:
- Never use the same password twice – I recommend using a password manager like NordPass to automatically create and store secure passwords.
- Get Malwarebytes – This will pair with your anti-virus and protect you from malware. And it's free. Learn more here.
- Read the privacy policy – Every legit site will have one of these. Read it to see how your data will be collected and handled.
5. Know What You're Getting Into
There are certain annoyances when it comes to paid surveys and GPT offers. Being aware of these beforehand won't get rid of them, but it will at least prepare you for them.
Here are a few big ones:
- Disqualifications will happen – As you fill out paid surveys, you'll eventually (and inevitably) get disqualified or screened out by one. This is all part of the game. Below Iâll share tips to help you lower your disqualification/screen-out rate, and Iâll even show you how to always qualify for online surveys, but itâs not exactly as good as it sounds. Stay tuned.
- Offers will occasionally not credit – Similar to the above, this is bound to happen to you at some point too. I'll share some tips below to help prevent it, but just be prepared for it to happen.
- Technical bugs happen – If you get wrongly banned from a legitimate site, don't freak out. Survey sites and GPT sites have strong fraud detection techniques, and sometimes they get things wrong. If you didn't break any rules, calmly and nicely contact customer support, let them know what happened, and things should get worked out smoothly.
6 Tips to Keep Your Accounts in Good Standing
“These paid survey tips and tricks have nothing to do with earning more money! What the heck man!”
Don't worry, I'm getting there.
The earning tips below would be of no help if you get your account banned or deactivated, so I'm assuming that's something you want to avoid.
Plus, some of the tips below will inadvertently increase your earnings, so don't skip them.
By keeping your account in tip-top shape, you make yourself an ideal candidate for paid surveys and other types of offers, which means more tasks being sent your way.
1. Always Use Your Own Real Info
Submitting false info is, believe it or not, fraud. You probably won't get arrested for it, but you technically could.
Survey companies are paying for REAL, accurate info, so provide that.
When setting up your accounts and answering paid surveys, be sure to answer honestly on behalf of yourself. Not your dad, your grandma Phil, or Jimmy from across the street. YOU and you only!

Oh, and if you think you're clever by using a fake person generator (like the one above) to create a false survey persona, well, you might be able to get away with it for a while, but I wouldn't plan on it working forever. In most cases it's more work than it's worth.
In the end:
Answering as anyone but yourself messes with someones data, increases your chances of being banned from the platform and survey provider you're using, and it's just a big hassle, so I'd recommend just being yourself.
2. Don't Use a VPN
Some survey sites may be fine with VPN usage, but most of them prohibit it.
Using a VPN sets off fraud alerts for most offer/survey providers so itâll most likely get you disqualified, and potentially get you banned from the site youâre working on.
Also, using a VPN to bypass location restrictions is another bad idea. The site will catch on eventually and you'll most likely end up wasting your time.
Bottom line: VPNs are great for everyday browsing, but turn them off for survey taking and tasking.
Note: If you're going on vacation to another country, I'd recommend NOT logging on to any of your GPT sites as this can sometimes look like VPN activity. You should also avoid logging into your survey/GPT platforms while on public WIFI networks as that can also be seen as VPN usage.
3. Login At Least Once a Month
This goes for ALL the survey sites and GPT sites you're a member of.
Logging onto your sites at least once each month is important for checking new tasks, checking your balances, and most importantly, avoiding inactivity penalties.
Some sites will lower your earnings balance for being inactive, others will go as far as deleting your account. Neither of those things is very fun.
Speaking of inactivity penalties:
4. Contact Support Before Inactivity
If you're going on a vacation or something and you physically won't be able to log in to your accounts to complete paid surveys and other tasks, let the sites you're a member of know in advance.
Just send out a simple email like:
“Hi, I'm a member of [insert survey/GPT site name]. I'm just reaching out in advance to let you know that I will be away from my computer and unable to log in to my account from [start date] to [end date]. Please let me know if there's anything I need to do to avoid inactivity penalties. Thanks!”
As I said above, some sites will disable or penalize inactive accounts so this is really the only way to prevent that from happening.
5. Avoid Doing Duplicate Offers or Surveys
Many sites use the same offer walls and survey providers so there's a good chance youâll see a duplicates every now and then.
While it can be tempting to complete these duplicates for an easy buck, doing the same surveys or offers more than once can get you banned. It's just bad etiquette too.
6. Follow the Rules of the Site
I already mentioned some basic rules above, but each and every site has it's own set of unique rules too.
For example, most sites limit the number of accounts you can have per household. Or, they might require users to be a certain age or from a certain country.
Whatever it is, these things can vary from site to site.
To find the rules of a particular site, look for and read through their terms and conditions. You can usually find a link to this near the bottom of a site, in the footer.
Purposely going against a sites terms can get you banned, so be careful.
6 Tips to Qualify for More Surveys
Survey disqualifications and screen-outs are one of the most annoying things when it comes to making money with paid surveys.
Luckily, there are things you can do to make them happen less often and even avoid them completely in some cases.
Here are some quick tips:
- Fill out your profile and keep it updated
- Pick surveys with topics that are relevant to you
- Read survey questions carefully to avoid attention checks
- Don't speed through surveys (this sets off fraud alarms)
- Don't intentionally take surveys super slowly (this also sets off fraud alarms)
- Provide quality, honest answers

28 Tips to Increase Your Earnings and Optimize Your Time
The survey hacks above are a good start to qualifying more and receiving more paid opportunities.
Below, you'll find survey hacks and other general GPT tips that will help you earn more, save time, and be more organized.
Keep in mind, I'm not going to show you how to cheat survey sites and GPT sites. That's not the point of this article, and it's not a good idea anyway.
The tips below are meant to help you increase your hourly rates using honest, legit, and safe tactics. That's it.
1. Sign Up For Multiple Sites and Apps
This advice is spewed all over every survey site post on the internet, but for good reason:
Every survey site and GPT site deals with slow times.
If you want to increase your chances of always having some type of paid work available, your best bet is to become a member of multiple sites and apps.
Don't go crazy and sign up for 20 different programs in a single day though.
I recommend starting out with 3-5 good ones, and then once you've tested those out thoroughly, add more over time.
You can find a bunch of good ones on our Platform Discovery Tool.
Another good reason to join multiple sites is so that you can…
2. Compare Offers Across Different Platforms and Offer Walls
You'll find the same offers across many different GPT sites and offer walls. However, the same offer in one place might pay differently in another.
If you're completing a high-value offer, it may be worth it to check a few other sites to see how that offer is paying in other places. In some cases, you might be able to get another $20-$30+ for certain offers.
3. Start Slow on New Sites
Remember how I said GPT sites and survey sites have strong fraud detection systems?
Yeah, well, if you sign up for a new site and start completing dozens of offers/paid surveys a day, there's a good chance you'll set off some of those fraud detector thingy ma-bobs.
To be safe, start slow on a new site. Fill out a few offers a day, max. As you gain more trust with the site, you can slowly ramp things up.
4. Give New Sites a Month of Solid Testing
When you first start using a site or app, don't expect your earnings to be the best they can be.
Think of the start of using a new site as a probational period.
During this time, you'll be getting to know the layout and features of the site, and the site will be getting to know your profile.
This all takes time, so your first month of earnings might be lower than the usual. (A month may seem like a long time, but if you follow the previous, it won't actual amount to many actual hours on the site.)
Keep in mind, this is when most people give up. They'll sign up for a site, try it for a day, and then forget about it forever.
The thing is, trying a site for a day doesn't give you an accurate idea of its true income potential. It also doesn't give you enough time to build a proper routine and strategy for the site.
Don't give up so fast!
5. Know Your Minimum Hourly Rate
Speaking of testing sites, you're going to need a benchmark to test them against.
This benchmark should be your minimum hourly rate.
Now, as I've said, GPT tasks won't earn you much. Most of the time, less than minimum wage.
Still, if you're doing this primarily for the cash, you're going to want to make sure you're at least getting a decent return for your time, right?
So, decide on your minimum hourly rate now. If a site is earning you less than that, you can easily decide whether to keep using it or not.
Note: Even if you get rid of a site from your roster, it's a good idea to still keep note that you're a member of them. Just make note that you're not using the platform right now, and then give it a shot a few months down the road to see if it's working better. Sometimes, cycling through sites like this can work really well. The next time you log on, that site that was under performing might have a ton of new high paying offers for you to make a quick buck with.
6. Track Your Earnings
Speaking of hourly rates and earnings, you'll need a way of recording them across all of your GPT sites.
This is a good idea for multiple reasons:
- Motivation – Paid surveys pay small amounts at a time, but if you track all your earnings over a long period, you'll see how those small payments add up. It makes it a lot more fun, too.
- Optimization – Tracking your earnings across different survey and GPT sites allows you to easily see which sites are performing well, and which sites are a potential waste of time.
- Taxes – No matter how big or small, it's important to declare your survey/GPT income on your tax report at the end of the year. Tracking everything throughout the year makes this easy and quick. (Talk to a tax pro for more detailed advice here.)
To help you track accurately, I've created a Google Spreadsheet perfect for the task. Find it here.
7. Experiment With New Sites and Tactics
As you track your earnings, look for patterns to see what is and isn't working. And be sure to constantly experiment with different sites, tactics, and opportunity types as well.
For example:
- See what happens when you fill out surveys at night vs. the morning
- Keep an eye on which days of the week work best for particular sites
- See which types of surveys/offers you have the most success with
- Occasionally add a new site into your roster and test its performance
The reason for doing all of this?
Different things work better for different people/demographics.
By experimenting with new sites and tactics, you'll find real ways to optimize YOUR survey earnings and your GPT tasking routine in general.
Tip: I'd recommend only adding 1-2 new sites/apps to your roster at a time. Adding too many at once can be a bit overwhelming.
8. Pick Paid Surveys Based on Hourly Rate
Most survey sites will give you estimated times on how long a survey will take.
Qmee does a really good job of this, and plenty of other sites do it too.
The estimated times arenât always 100% accurate, but theyâre usually close enough. Be sure to use them to calculate the estimated hourly rate of a survey before committing your time to it.
Sometimes, the highest paying survey isn't actually the best in terms of the hourly rate.
If all of the sites youâre a member of only have surveys paying less than your desired minimum hourly rate, Iâd just step away from the computer and do something else. Unless youâre really bored or have nothing else to do, thereâs no point in wasting your time.
9. Build a Routine and Stay Consistent
My friend who introduced me to GPT sites many years ago was always good at this. He would go on his sites and complete tasks every. single. morning.
I was much less consistent, and as you could probably guess, had far less success as a result.
Once you have a list of sites you're earning from, learn how to best use those sites and then build a routine that allows you to optimize your earnings.
If you can stay consistent with your set routine, the small daily earnings will add up.
Tip: Filling out surveys in the morning is a good strategy because it gets it out of the way right away. Even one survey a day can add up at the end of a month.
10. Set Earnings Goals Each Month
Speaking of consistency, setting monthly earnings goals is a good way to keep yourself motivated and dedicated.
Just make sure your goals are realistic.
Saying you want to earn an extra $100 this month with GPT sites is pretty reasonable. Saying you want to earn $1,000 is a bit less reasonable.
Start small and go from there.
Once you have your goal, write it down somewhere that you'll see it every day. Then, use your average hourly rate (calculated by the earnings spreadsheet) to get an estimate on how many hours you'll need to clock in order to hit your goal.
11. Check Your Email Regularly
A lot of survey sites and GPT sites will send paid surveys and offers directly to your email address as they become available.
After you've signed up for a few sites, check your email daily to look for these paid opportunities.
As mentioned previously, this is why it's a good idea to have a separate email for survey/GPT sites.
12. Watch the Dashboard Too
Some sites won't even bother sending offer invites to your email inbox if there are already a ton of users logged into the site.
This is especially true for survey sites.
To avoid this problem, be sure to log into your sites regularly to check for new surveys and offers.
If you can, keep your favorite sites open on your laptop or PC whenever you can. That way, you'll see new surveys right as they become available.
13. Be Quick When You See a Good Offer
When you see a new survey or offer pop into your email inbox or survey dashboard, start it as quick as you can!
Some offers and paid surveys are first come first serve, so the faster you can get to them, the better chance you have at qualifying.
Keep in mind, I'm not saying to speed through surveys. Just try to start them quickly so that you secure a spot as a respondent. Then, take your time answering to ensure you don't get disqualified or screened out.
14. Check Your Email After Completing an Offer
Occasionally, GPT offers and paid surveys will require you to confirm an email in your inbox to be fully completed. It's not common, but it does happen.
Just to be safe, after youâve completed any type of paid task, check your inbox (including the spam folder) and look for an email from the offer provider.
15. Linger After Completing Offers
I saw this survey hack on InstaGC.
According to them, by leaving the last page of an offer or paid survey open for a while (or until it credits), you'll increase your chances of getting properly credited for completion.
They also say to allow each page to load fully before submitting information, which is right in line with the “Go Slow” tip I shared above.
Oh, and after you've completed an offer, they also recommend to wait a bit before starting another.
Speaking of, here's something else you should do before starting new offers:
16. Clear Your Cache/Cookies
Paid surveys and offer walls typically show and credit offers (and provide other features) based on the cookies stored in your browser.
While this helps them stop people from completing the same surveys or offers multiple times, sometimes the system glitches due to similar cookies being used by multiple providers.
By clearing your cookies BEFORE doing a new survey or offer, you can increase your qualification rate and your chance of being properly credited for completion.
It's one of the weirder survey hacks on this list, but it can help.
There is one problem though:
If you clear all of your cookies, you'll get logged out of all your favorite sites.
An easier solution:
17. Browse in Private Mode
When you browse in a private/incognito window, cookies are only stored temporarily. Once you end the incognito session, everything is deleted automatically.
This is perfect for following the tip above, and it's easy.
For that reason, I recommend doing ALL your GPT activities and paid survey filling in a private/incognito window.

Then, before doing a new survey or offer, just close and reopen the incognito window to start with fresh cookies.
Note: If you're going to use Incognito mode in Chrome, be sure to turn OFF the “Block third-party cookies” option seen in the image above. That way you'll still allow cookies (which are required for some site features) but after you close the browser and restart it again, those cookies will be cleared.
18. Alternatively, Use a Different Browser
This is one other way to deal with the cookie clearing problem, but it can also increase your qualification rate for certain surveys and offers.
I haven't tried it myself, but while writing my Treasure Trooper review, I got to chatting with some of the members there. They said that sometimes when they can't get an offer to credit, they'll switch browsers (to say IE or Firefox) and it'll suddenly credit them.
Honestly, this sounds like a bit of speculation, but who knows. It's worth trying.
19. Turn Off Your Ad Blocker
I love my ad blocker just as much as the next guy, but on some survey sites and GPT sites, it can cause certain features to not work, and it can even cause surveys and other offers to not credit.
I'd recommend just turning off the ad blocker completely while you do any GPT tasks.
Luckily, if you use an incognito window, your ad blocker should be turned off automatically. Otherwise, you'll need to disable it manually.
Note: If you use incognito/private browser mode when filling out surveys, you can simply set it up so your ad blocker doesn't run on incognito. Easy.
20. Keep Evidence
As I mentioned above, some paid surveys and GPT offers (even when you complete them fully and correctly) just won't credit for whatever reason.
When this happens, having evidence that you actually successfully completed the survey/offer is essential.
For each survey or offer that you do, note down the ID # and name. Then, take some screenshots at the end of the offer so you have proof of completion. Or, if you want to be even more thorough, take a screen recording of yourself completing the offer.
While this may seem like a big hassle, it can save your earnings and ensure that your time doesn't get wasted.
When/if the situation arrives where you don't get credited for a completed offer, contact support and let them know. As long as you're not rude and you show your proof, they should help you out.
21. Complete Easy Daily Tasks
A lot of GPT sites and apps offer daily tasks that will reward you for consistency.
Examples:
- Qmee has a daily poll that when you complete it five days in a row, they increase the amount you earn from surveys by 10%. Occasionally they'll also offer pop quizzes for an easy $0.03.
- Tellwut has daily polls that everyone can do for super easy points.
- Swagbucks has a daily to do list that awards you bonus points for checking off goals.
- Cointiply allows you to roll a faucet every hour for free earnings
The list goes on.
It's a good idea to make note of the sites/apps you're a member of that offer daily tasks like this so you can easily remember to log on every day to complete them.
The daily rewards won't be huge, but they'll add up over time.
22. Watch the Activity Feed
If the site youâre on has an activity feed, check it often to see how other users are earning.
Here's an example activity feed on a platform called GrabPoints:

If you see a popular offer that many people seem to be completing successfully, there's a good chance you'll be able to complete it too.
This is one of the best ways to find good, time-worthy paid surveys, offers, and other tasks.
23. Read Offer and Survey Rules and Instructions Carefully
Many paid surveys and GPT offers will have specific instructions. Be sure to read these carefully beforehand to make sure you understand how the offer works and what you need to do to complete it.
When it comes to surveys, the more you know about what the survey provider wants, the better chances you have at qualifying.
When it comes to GPT offers, the rules and terms can vary. For example, some GPT offers will have time limits. Others will require you to make a purchase of something in order to be credited.

Whatever type of task you're doing, reading the rules carefully can help you avoid a lot of wasted time.
24. Try Mobile for More Surveys and Offers
Some sites offer apps with extra earning opportunities. Other sites you can simply use the browser on your phone to access the mobile version of the site.
Either way, this can open up new earning opportunities and offers. Try it out!
If you're not yet apart of any money-making apps or exclusively mobile survey and GPT apps, add some to your roster! It's always nice and convenient to be able to earn from your phone.
25. Follow GPT Sites and Apps on Social Media
Many sites will announce bonus earning opportunities and other helpful tips and news on their social media profiles. Look out for them.
Some sites like Swagbucks will even drop codes that allow you to get easy free points. Itâs worth it to follow your favorite sites and keep an eye out for these.
26. Refer Your Friends
Most GPT sites offer some sort of referral scheme. If you enjoy the site and think others should try it, why not make a bit of money for your recommendations?
Just please, don't go around spamming your referral link on every forum and social media site.
One of the best ways to get consistent referrals is to start a blog.
27. Get a Second Screen
This wonât be possible for everyone, but if youâre working on a desktop, you can increase your efficiency immensely with a second screen.
It's the ultimate productivity hack.
A second screen also makes it easy to keep site dashboards open while you do other stuff on your computer — that way you can see when new surveys/offers come in right away.
28. Network with Others
If the site youâre on has a live chat feature or forums (like InstaGC or Treasure Trooper), use those features to chat with other members. They might be able to share some site-specific tips and tricks with you.
Similarly, you can head over to Reddit or other sites and forums to chat with others about paid surveys and GPT sites in general.
You'll often find guides for:
- Gaming offers (e.g. the best way to reach a certain game level)
- Survey suggestions (e.g. best survey providers or ones to avoid)
Because the survey/GPT space is changing so often, this can be one of the best ways to get up to date earning tips and site suggestions.
29. Check for Relevant Offers Before Using a New Service
GPT sites often have signup offers, trial offers, and cashback offers for things like banking services, games, gambling sites, and other online services.
If you're planning to sign up for something new, take a quick look on a few GPT sites and offer walls to see if you can find a paid offer for it. This way you get a bit of money for something you were planning on doing anyway — win win!
Other Tips and Tricks
1. Cash-Out as Soon as You Can
Until you actually cash your earnings out from a site, that money isn't yours. If the site goes down, or you get banned, or your account gets hacked, you risk all of your hard work going to waste.
Take it from me:
I had over $200 on a survey platform that shut down. Never got that money.
That's why as soon as you reach the minimum payout amount on a site, you should cash out. Even if you're following the rules and doing everything right, it's still risky to hold your earnings on a site for longer than necessary.
The only time it makes sense to save your points/earnings on a site is if you're:
- Willing to take the risk; and
- There's some benefit to doing so (e.g. some sites will pay interest on your balance or give you discounts on payouts if you save up your earnings)
Still, as I said, be sure you're willing to risk it before racking up a huge balance.
2. Turn Those Gift Cards Into Cash
If you need some actual cash but a site only pays via gift card, you're not out of luck. Consider selling your gift cards online on places like Reddit, Raise, Gift Card Granny, or to friends.
Want Survey Tips for a Particular Platform?
The paid survey tips and tricks above are pretty general and can be applied to many different survey sites and GPT sites.

Final Thoughts
Hope you found these online survey tips and tricks helpful.
Although they aren't “hacks” that will magically put money in your bank account, they should make your survey and paid offer-taking experience a little bit better (and more profitable).
