We are all spending too much time on our phones these days. While that's a bad habit that’s difficult to prevent, there are some ways in which it can actually help us make extra money.
Don’t worry, I’m not claiming that you have a place in Hollywood just because you know how to record a video on your iPhone. Instead, what I can claim is that there's a way in which you can turn this hobby into profit.
How do I know this? Because I did it first. Trust me, I am not some talented guy who has a keen eye for videography either. If I can do it, so can you. You just need to have some luck, talk to the right people and hope for the best.
How to Make Money Selling Videos Online
Simple video content is becoming more popular by the minute.
It has become apparent that people don’t have time to read as they did back in the day. Therefore, the need for content that can quickly deliver the information in a manner of minutes is bigger than ever.
Still, plenty of people seem to think that by filming a studio-like quality video they give themselves the best chance to succeed. Judging by my own experience and by strictly observing others, I came to the conclusion that this is a big mistake. Overproduced videos barely ever get to go viral.
Compared to that, home videos that appear to be a little bit grainy have a far greater chance of success. It might be that they look more authentic compared to the aforementioned ones, but that is how I see it.
Ultimately, this is great news, as it means that you can simply upload most of the videos you already have on your phone, without the need to enhance them and waste a bunch of time for nothing.
Popular Video Categories

For start, I noticed that hot political topics will always remain in focus. Still, because I tend to stay away from that stuff as much as I can, I can honestly say that I had no previous experience in dealing with the subject.
Any type of exclusive footage has also always been in demand. That includes current footage of:
- Incredible weather conditions
- Breakthroughs in human rights; and other controversial topics.
However, there are some difficulties in filming those types of videos, as you always have to be as close to the action as possible, which is not sustainable. Well, that is, unless you are an international reporter, but I digress.
What I found success with is selling funny home videos, including children and pets. I didn’t even go into it with some huge expectations, but it ended up becoming a steady source of passive income, which was a welcomed surprise for me.

Where to Sell Your Videos
No matter how much you want it to happen, chances are that big broadcasting networks won’t be coming to your door on their own. First of all, you need to find a way to get your content out there. After that, it’s a combination of luck and quality that will determine your future success.
While the most popular platform to sell videos online is probably Jukin Media, I haven't really thrived there. On the other hand, Newsflare and Rumble proved to be tremendous. The process of registration was incredibly simple, and after that was complete, all that was left was to upload a few of the videos.
Their clientele includes popular websites such as Yahoo, The Telegraph, Daily Mail, Associated Press and a plethora of other smaller networks. In total, relative to the level of competition, this gives your videos the best chance to go viral.
How Much Money Can You Make?
Ultimately, funny videos can generate a lot of money, whether you choose to believe it or not. Naturally, someone has to like your content enough to give it a chance at first, but once that happens, the sky's the limit.
Well, that might be a bit of an optimistic take on things, but hear me out. Viral videos have the potential to earn money, and if you ever get there, you can expect to see some nice profit.
On the two platforms I mentioned above, you get to keep 50% out of all the profit that your videos generate. Just add your credit card or PayPal to the website, and the funds will be transferred to your account in less than 24 hours.
Yes, I know, you probably want to know just how much was I able to earn? Well, over the years, up until now, I have netted just a tad over $6,000 selling videos! Here's my Newsflare sales dashboard:
As you may or may not be able to see from the photo above, I've made several £100 sales, and I even sold this video for £216. Mind you, it took no longer than a few minutes to upload all of my videos (see them all here) in order to get there. Not a bad deal if you ask me.
Are you still here or are you already uploading your footage to these platforms? That’s what I thought! I wish you the best of luck!
