They say nothing is free in life, so how are you reading an article about how to get free money online?
Well, if you look hard enough, there are a lot of different companies willing to give away a little bit of free cash.
Why?
Because these days, companies need to keep you happy or else you're going to find a better service elsewhere.
Think about it:
When you go to a store and an employee treats you like crap, do you go back to that store next time or do you go to a new store?
You'd probably go to a new store.
On the other hand, when a store treats you well and you leave feeling happy and valued, there's a good chance you'll end up visiting that store again in the future.
That's why companies, websites, services, etc. sometimes give out free moolah.
Below, I'll break down 8 main ways to get free money online and offline:
- Get Free Money for Signing Up
- Get Free Money As You Shop
- Install Apps for Free Cash
- Get Free Cash From Banks
- Get Free Money From the Government
- Invest and Earn Free Money
- Get Free Money From Your Employer
- Other Ways to Get Free Money Online and Offline
I'll also tell you exactly what you need to do in order to receive your bounty!

Signups for Pay ($?)
This one is a wild card. It's a subreddit where people post different offers for people to get paid to sign up for stuff. You'll find all sorts of offers ranging from a free $1 to over $100 in some cases.
Get Free Money As You Shop
Some of the services below offer free money for signing up like the ones above, but they also pay you for shopping.
I've also included some other sneaky money-saving hacks to help you increase your purchasing power.
Rakuten (previously Ebates) ($5-$30)
Rakuten is one of the most popular online cashback sites around and they've paid users almost $4 billion in cash back since they started in 1998. Their sign-up bonus fluctuates frequently so visit their site to see what you can get.
To earn your free money, after creating an account, you'll need to spend $25 through Rakuten within 90-days of signing up. Payments are sent via PayPal (or check if you'd rather get the money mailed to you).
Tip: If you don't need to buy anything right now, don't waste your money! Delay your Rakuten sign up until you know you need to buy something, that way you're getting something you need anyway, plus a free $25 on top.
BeFrugal ($10)

BeFrugal is similar to Rakuten in that it offers cash back at tons of different stores on the web. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't sign up for BOTH services — you may be able to find better deals by comparing before you shop.
How to earn the free $10: Create an account and earn $10 in cash back within 1 year.
ShopAtHome ($10)

- Who can join: Anyone 13 years or older worldwide.
- Payout options: Check, PayPal, and over 80 gift card options.
- Minimum payout: $20.
ShopAtHome is another service similar to Rakuten and BeFrugal. It offers cash back and coupons at over 2,000 stores.
To get your free $10: Create an account here and spend $25 through the site (earning at least $0.25 in cashback) within 30 days. You can receive your $10 sign-up bonus via PayPal cash or an Amazon gift card.
Ibotta ($5)

Ibotta is one of the largest in-store cash-back apps in the US. They also offer a browser extension for online cashback. In total, their users have earned over 300 million dollars in cashback on groceries and other products.
How to get your free money: Create an account and download the Ibotta app or browser. You'll earn the$5 bonus after uploading your first receipt.
Checkout 51
Checkout 51 is similar to Ibotta, offering cashback on groceries and other products. It's available in the US and Canada, and it's super easy to use. Just add offers to your account, purchase them, and then scan your receipt to get your cash back.
How to get your free $5: Sign up here and redeem your first offer within the app by uploading a receipt. Upon cashout, Checkout 51 will mail you a check. Checkout 51's sign-up bonus is currently paused.
Fetch Rewards ($2)

Fetch Rewards is one of the best apps for getting cash back for receipts. It's different from Checkout 51 and Ibotta though because you can scan any receipts at all into the app, there are no restrictions. All receipts will award you with a bit of free cash.
How to get a free $2: Currently unavailable! Still a great app though.
Drop ($5)

Drop is one of my favorite apps to earn cashback. It's super easy to use, they have unique deals, and they also have some fun games you can play for extra free cash (highly recommend the ‘Hoops' game).
To earn your free $5 bonus (5,000 drop points), you just need to create an account here and link a card.
Shopkick ($1)

Shopkick is cool because you can earn points without having to purchase anything. You can earn for scanning product barcodes, walking into stores, visiting online stores, and more!
To earn your free $1 bonus, create an account here and complete your first walk-in or barcode scan within a week of signing up.
Caddle ($1)

Caddle is another paid receipt scanner app but this one is available in Canada only. Besides offering cashback deals, they also have short survey offers you can complete for money.
To earn your free $1 bonus, download the Caddle app using the referral code DYLAN44715 and complete an offer in the app .
Seated ($15)

Seated is unique because it's a cashback program for restaurants. It's currently only available in Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, NYC, and Boston.
Every time you use the app to make a reservation or order takeout/delivery, you'll earn up to 30% in cashback that you can redeem for physical products or gift cards to stores like Amazon, Uber, and more.
To get your free $15, create an account and make a reservation or order.
Mobee ($3)

Mobee is a mystery shopping app that connects you with micro jobs in your area. To complete these jobs, you'll typically be asked to take pictures of store products, answer questions about displays, things like that. If you're already planning to go out to a store anyway, this is easy free money.
To get your free $3, create an account and use the invite code ‘W32C'.
Field Agent

- Who can join: Anyone 18 years or older in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, Mexico, South Africa, Ecuador, or Spain.
- Payout options: PayPal, direct deposit, Interac e-Transfer, Dwolla.
- Minimum payout: $15. Cashouts under $75 include a $1 fee.
Field Agent is very similar to Mobee, offering mystery shopping tasks near you. They even offer some product testing jobs which is pretty cool. Unfortunately, Field Agent doesn't offer any free sign-up bonuses, but it's still good for easy tasks every now and then.
Paribus
Paribus is a free service that monitors your purchases to look for price drops. If it finds one at a store with a price protection policy, and your purchase is within a certain time frame, Paribus will automatically work to get you a refund of the difference.
For example, if you purchase a USB at Best Buy for $30 and a week later they're selling it for $20, Paribus will send Best Buy your original receipt and negotiate a refund of $10.
Loyalty Rewards Programs
Almost every store has a rewards program these days. Grocery stores, gas stations, even restaurants.
These loyalty programs are usually free to join and give you perks like discounts and points for purchases that you can exchange for free dollars later on. So take advantage! If you don't want a bunch of card clutter, use an app like Stocard to store them digitally.
Tip: Check the point conversion rates for your reward programs. A lot of the time, saving up your points will give you a better exchange rate.
Discount Gift Cards
Discount gift cards are the ultimate hack for free money. Because a lot of people receive gift cards they'll never use, they sell them at a discount. For example, a $100 gift card might be sold for only $90.
Now, if that gift card is for a store you actually shop at, it's a no-brainer to turn your $90 into $100. That's a free $10 poofed into your pocket like magic.
Best of all, you can find these discount gift cards online. Here are some options:
Credit Cards
Credit cards can give you easy free money, but you have to be careful. If you don't pay them off entirely every single month, they'll end up taking more than they give. You should NEVER carry a balance on a credit card.
If you can follow that simple rule, credit cards are fantastic. Find one that offers reward points or cashback on your purchases and you're ready to go.
You can combine this with all of the other services above to stack your free cash to tha ceiling!
Install Apps for Free Cash
If you want to know how to get free money online passively, these apps are the answer. Once you set them up, they require almost no extra work beyond that point.
What's the catch? Most of the apps below require you to share data like your internet usage or app usage in order to get paid. In other words, you're sacrificing a bit of privacy for money.
Nielsen Computer & Mobile Panel ($50/Year)
The Nielsen Computer & Mobile Panel is run by Nielsen, a massive research company that runs studies on consumers, trends, and habits. For them to learn more about mobile users, they're willing to pay you up to $50/year to install an app on your device.
To get your free money, install the app, sit back, and enjoy! If you ever want to stop participating, you can uninstall the app at any time.
Privacy info: Nielsen says they separate your name from your data and then combine it with thousands of others to keep everything completely anonymous. They also never collect the content of visited websites, user IDs, passwords, or other private information.
SurveySavvy ($60-$180/Year)
SurveySavvy is similar to the Nielsen Computer & Mobile Panel, but with SurveySavvy, you can triple your earnings.
To get started, install the SurveySavvy app on your smartphone, desktop, or tablet and you'll earn $5/month for each device you connect. You can install the app on up to 3 devices which means you can earn up to $180/year effortlessly.
Privacy info: SurveySavvy says all the information they collect is kept strictly confidential and is only used to identify online trends.
MobileXpression ($5+)
MobileXpression is another app that will pay you to install their software onto your mobile device or tablet. After a week of having the software on your device, they'll send you a free $5 Amazon gift card.
If you keep the app installed after a week you'll continue earning credits that you can redeem for more gift cards. You can uninstall the app at any time.
Privacy info: MobileXpression gathers info about things like web browsing, app usage, video streaming, etc. They state “Maintaining our panel members' privacy is our number one priority.” They will never collect or view your personal info (e.g. text messages, emails, images, etc.).
Smart App ($60+/Year)

Smart App is very similar to the apps above, but this one works on all devices: PC, tablets, and mobile. After you install the software on one of your devices and stay active for 30 days, you'll start earning a free $5/month.
Smart App also has other incentives that could allow you to earn even more free cash with your devices. They don't mess around with gift cards either, they'll pay you free PayPal money instantly upon cashing out.
To get started, create an account here.
Privacy: Smart Panel collects data on app usage, web, and device features. Data is anonymized and encrypted to protect your personal information.
Honeygain ($5+)

- Who can join: Anyone in the world of legal age (typically 18). Those under 18 can join with parental/guardian approval.
- Payment options: PayPal and BTC.
- Minimum payout: $20.
- Learn more: Honeygain Review and Guide.
Honeygain is a pretty unique site that will pay you to share your internet with businesses and researchers.
Essentially how this works is, you download the Honeygain app on your phone, PC, or both, connecting them to the network. This allows Honeygain's vetted clients to access the internet from your device.
Any time your internet is used like this, you get paid. And since you're already paying for your internet anyway, you're pretty much earning free money by sharing what you don't need.
The reason businesses pay for this is that it allows them to do location-based research. For example, if they're in the US but they need to check if their website is working as intended in China, they can use Honeygain to access a residential IP address.
Note that there are some security concerns with this type of earning method. Read my full Honeygain review to learn more.
To get your free $5: Create an account here.
Apps That Pay You to Walk
Yep, this is a real thing. With most paid-to-walk apps, you won't earn a lot, but they're almost entirely passive and they're good motivators for exercise!
For a bigger payday, you can try HealthyWage, which pays you to lose weight (you can win up to $10,000), but it also required you to put up some of your own money as collateral, so it's not risk-free.
Get Free Cash From Banks
Banking is one of those areas where consumers have so many different choices at this point banks HAVE to offer incentives to stay competitive. This is especially true with online banks.
Payoneer ($25)

Payoneer is a fantastic online bank. I use it for receiving some of the affiliate payments I earn on Swift Salary. The fees are pretty low (lower than PayPal's) and the interface is easy to use, so there's not much to dislike.
To get a free $25 from Payoneer, create an account here. Once you receive $1,000 in payments, they'll give you the bonus.
Coinbase ($10+)
Coinbase isn't really a bank, but they are one of the major players for buying and selling cryptocurrency.
If you sign up and buy or sell $100 or more through this link, you'll get a free $10 in Bitcoin!
Another interesting way to earn free money on Coinbase is through their new Learn and Earn section. Basically, you watch videos about new cryptocurrencies and you earn free money as you learn. Check it out.
Obligatory disclaimer: I'm not an investment advisor and cryptocurrency is known to be volatile. Invest at your own risk.
Wise (Free International Transfer Up to $800)

Wise (previously TransferWise) is my favorite solution at the moment for transferring money internationally and exchanging currencies. It's fast and has low fees, which is all you really need.
To get your free transfer: Create an account here. It's not exactly free money, but if you need to make an international transfer, saving on the fees is pretty nice!
More Bank Promos
There are a ton of bank promotions happening at all times, and they change frequently. For up-to-date lists, check out these articles:
Get Free Money From the Government
Usually, the government is the one taking money from us, but there are some cases where it's the other way around.
Claim Uncashed Cheques from the CRA
If you're in Canada, you may have uncashed cheques from the CRA that are waiting to be claimed. This could happen if you've changed addresses recently and forgotten to update, or if the cheque has been misplaced, stolen, or destroyed.
To check if you have any uncashed CRA cheques, login to your CRA account and, on the right-hand side under “Related services,” look for “Uncashed cheques.”
Tip: Sign up or direct deposit to prevent misplaced or lost cheques in the future.
Find Unclaimed Money
If you're in Canada, you can go here to check if you have any unclaimed balances with the Bank of Canada. This could happen if you left an account unused or forgot about it.
If you're in the US, check out unclaimed.org to see if you have any unclaimed money lying around.
Max Out Tax-Advantaged Accounts
This includes:
- Tax-deferred accounts like the traditional IRA or 401k in the US, or the RRSP in Canada. Contributions to these accounts are tax-deductible. The money isn't taxed until it's withdrawn in retirement.
- Tax-exempt accounts like the Roth IRA in the US, or TFSA in Canada. Contributions to these accounts are made with after-tax dollars, but gains and withdrawals are tax-free.
By maxing these accounts out and investing with them (this is very important, don't just let the money sit), you can get a bunch of free money over the long term.
If you're not sure how to invest or you want it done for you automatically, check out Wealthsimple (or Blooom for 401k management).
Invest and Earn Free Money
Speaking of investing: If you've been thinking about getting started but you're not sure how or you just haven't found the time, some free money should be a great motivator! These apps help you invest and give you a little boost to start you off.
Moka (previously Mylo) ($5)

Moka is an app that rounds up your purchases and then invests the spare change for you. It's all automatic, and once you set it up, it works in the background.
To get your free $5 bonus, create an account and link your bank account. It can take a couple of business days for the money to appear.
Acorns ($5)
Acorns is the US and Australian alternative to Moka. It does the same thing by rounding up purchases and investing spare change.
To get your free $5, create an account here.
Wealthsimple

Wealthsimple doesn't exactly give you free money for signing up, but instead, they offer to manage an extra $10,000 of investments for you for a year if you use this link.
Typically they charge a 0.5% fee for this so $10,000 managed for free is like a free $50 bill — that is if you have $10k to invest.
WeBull ($2.5-$1,850)
WeBull is an online broker in the US offering commission-free trading. The app is really well-made and even though I'm in Canada and can't use it to actually trade stocks, I still use it for the charts, research, and information provided on the platform.
Instead of giving free money directly, WeBull instead offers up to 2 free stocks. Here's how it works:
- Just for opening a brokerage account, WeBull will give you a free stock worth $2.5-$250.
- If you make an initial deposit of $100, WeBull will give you a second free stock worth $8-$1,600.
In other words, if you deposit at least $100 to start, you'll get a minimum of of $10.50 in free stocks right away.
Get Free Money From Your Employer
If you work for a company, you might as well take full advantage of any and all benefits and offerings. Here are some ideas:
Retirement Account Matching
Retirement matching programs = free cash that will directly contribute toward your future and give you an instant return on your investment.
If you're in the US, check if your employer offers 401k matching. If you're in Canada, look for Group RRSP matching. Other countries may have similar programs, I'm not 100% sure.
How these programs typically work is, your employer will match a certain percentage of your investment contributions for the year based on your annual income. So for example, your employer might match 100% of your contributions up to 5% of your income. If you make $100,000/year, that means they'll match up to $5,000. You'll need to contribute at least $5,000 to maximize the match.
Always max out your employer match if you can to get the most out of it.
Education Reimbursement ($1,000+)
Many companies offer tuition reimbursement programs so if you're currently in school or planning to go, be sure to ask your HR manager about this! With how expensive school is, this is some of the best free money you can get.
When I used to work at Home Depot even part-time employees could take advantage of the tuition reimbursement program to get up to $1,500 back. Here are some other companies that offer similar programs.
Benefits
If your company offers any kind of employee benefits (medical, service discounts (e.g. for the gym, phone bill, etc.), dental, etc.) use them to the fullest.
Other Ways to Get Free Money Online and Offline
I couldn't fit these into any of the categories above, but they're definitely worth looking over.
Join a Class Action Lawsuit
A class-action lawsuit is essentially when a group of people sues another entity (like a corporation) together. This could be due to a defective/unsafe product, misleading/false advertising, or something else.
When these types of lawsuits are settled, all those affected (e.g. those who purchased one of the defective products) are eligible to receive a portion of the settlement (typically cash).
Tons of class action lawsuits happen every year, so who knows, you might be eligible for one of them, which could mean some free cash! Check out these sites to find potential settlements:
- Class Action Rebates
- ClassAction.org
- Top Class Actions (has US, Canada, and UK sites)
Get Free Cash While You Browse

There are a few sites that will pay you to browse the web:
- Bing (earn Microsoft rewards which can be exchanged for gift cards and products)
- Qmee (install the extension to earn free PayPal cash on random searches — works on Google)
- Swagbucks (has a search engine you can use to earn Swagbucks)
- Treasure Trooper (has a unique search engine like Swagbucks)
- Brave Browser (pays you via cryptocurrency to view safe ads)
This requires little effort and you're most likely searching the web daily anyways, so it's easy money. Of course, it doesn't pay much.
Negotiate Bills Automatically With Trim
Trim is an AI financial advisor that tracks your spending, subscriptions, and more. It can also get you free money by negotiating your cable, TV, and internet bills for you.
Apply for Scholarships
Scholarships are one of the best ways for teens to make money without having to work a job or start some kind of business. It'll take some effort to apply, but it's definitely worth it as any free money you win will help you lessen or avoid college debt in the future.
To get started, here's a good guide for finding scholarships. Another tip: search google for “scholarships near me” and you should see some relevant results.
Bask in Birthday Freebies
A lot of companies will give you something free on your birthday if you're in the know. I don't have a guide up yet for this, but if you want to find some options just Google “birthday freebies” and Google should give you some local results!
Final Thoughts
It may seem too good to be true, but there really are ways to get free money online and in-person. You won't get rich, but something's better than nothing, right?

Hello,
Thanks for the site! Any way to earn and keep more money is appreciated.
I wanted to let you know that Cash Crate is now dsyfunct. It redirects to Swagbucks.
Hey Marlone, glad you like the site! Thanks for the heads up on Cashcrate, I’ve been meaning to remove it. I’ve updated the article now!
Good information.
Keep sharing with us.
Swagbucks has not worked for me. I don’t get surveys or any other money activity that will get me gift cards. I dislike swagbucks.
Hey Gwen,
Sorry to hear that Swagbucks didn’t work out for you! It’s definitely either a hit or a miss. I’ve had people tell me they love it and I’ve had people tell me they hate it. The companies paying for the surveys are looking for people of certain demographics, so that definitely influences your earning potential.
My one suggestion would be to check out the “Shop” section on Swagbucks. If you already do a lot of online shopping, it’s an easy way to get some Swagbucks. How it works is simple, you shop at your favorite stores through Swagbucks.com, and you’ll automatically receive free cash back on your purchases in the form of Swagbucks. Most of the stores I’ve seen are usually offering 2-3% cashback, so if you spent $100 you’d get 200-300 Swagbucks back. It’s not a lot but if you’re shopping anyway then it’s free money.
