Pros

  • Flexibility to work when, where, and however much you want.
  • Variety of tasks available.
  • Earning potential can be high (some workers have reported earning hundreds or even thousands of dollars per month).

Pros

  • Above average pay for the type of work being done. Chicago Booth CDR claims to pay around $12 per hour.
  • Chance of participating in interesting studies because, rather than market research, they're focused on human behavior. And who knows, you may contribute to some important research as well!
  • No minimum payout threshold.

Cons

  • Low pay (many tasks on MTurk pay very little, sometimes only a few cents per task).
  • Competition (there are many workers on MTurk, which means that there can be a lot of competition for the higher-paying tasks).
  • Inconsistent work (the availability of tasks on MTurk can vary, which means that there may not always be enough work available for workers to earn a consistent income).

Cons

  • Only one payout option: Amazon.com gift cards.
  • It's a lesser-known platform, so study availability might be limited.
  • Payments can sometimes take longer than 2 business days.
